Haiti is Caribbean by birth, French by education, and
African by culture.

Haiti was originally inhabited by Taino and Arawak
Indians.  When the European conquerors took over the
island, they enslaved the natives.  Hard work and
diseases such as yellow fever caused the majority of the
natives to become extinct. They were replaced by
African slaves.

Haiti has two official languages; French and Haitian
Creole, which is a mixture of some African dialects,
French, Spanish, and English.

The music of Haiti is the konpa, the kadans, and the
troubadour.  Some people think that Haitian music
sounds like a slow merengue, which is the music of the
Dominican Republic.

In Haiti, Soccer is the official sport. It is played by both
men and women.
